Fractions
The grade 2s spent some more time exploring fractions. This time we used playdough to create equal parts of a whole.
We also used shape blocks to create a whole from equal parts.
Grade 2s should know halves, quarters and eighths, but many children explored other fractions too. Fractions are easy! You just need to remember that the parts are equal sizes.
A Real Life Nursery Rhyme
Ms Jackson had a little goat,
Little goat,
Little goat.
Ms Jackson had a little goat,
Its fleece was white as snow.
Ms Jackson had a little goat,
Its fleece was white as snow.
It followed her to school one day,
School one day,
School one day.
It followed her to school one day,
It was against the rules.
It made the children laugh and play,
Laugh and play,
Laugh and play.
It made the children laugh and play,
To see a goat at school.
To see a goat at school.
To see a goat at school.
One day Ms Jackson brought a goat to school. We fed it. It was cute.

More fractions...
We are continuing to our work on fractions.
This week we learnt about eighths. Eighths are eight equal parts of a whole. Are these eighths? Let's see:

Yes, they are equal! |
We had an investigation about how to divide a circle into eighths. We were allowed to draw on our tables! Which of these circles is divided correctly into eighths? How do you know?

Bluearth with Mitch
On Wednesday, July 27th, we were lucky enough to have another visit from Mitch, our wonderful Bluearth coach. Thanks, Mr Beck, for organising this.
As always, we had a fantastic time! We played some new games and did a heap of activities based on coordination. We ran, skipped, hopped and jumped, both forwards and backwards. We also did lots of cross patterning. That is when you cross the midline of your body. It wakes your brain up and helps the left and right parts of your brain to work better together. Some of the activities were challenging, but our brains LOVE challenges. Even when you think you can't do something, your brain loves it! So keep practising and master the challenges. Your brain will thank you!
Grade 2s, share a skill with someone at home, and give their brain some exercise, too! :)
